Teen auto insurance

To operate a vehicle lawfully, student motorists in USA must get their vehicles insured. Trying to find a specialist learner insurance packages, while utilizing a provisional motorists licence, can be expensive due to the fact insurance providers are certainly not too interested in insuring brand new motorists. New drivers are actually at a higher risk of getting into a collision. More often than not, cover with regard to provisional motorists is just too steeply-priced for brand new motorists, in particular when they?re under the age of 25 or even still a teen.

Of course, insurance organisations have their own appropriate arguments for not really seeking to protect brand new motorists. A great percentage of vehicle accidents which entail a fatality are caused by motorists who have recently taken and passed their driving test, many being surrounding the age of seventeen or 18.

Fortunately, there are still methods for getting lower priced student driver insurance packages through using some recommendations. These pointers are highlighted below and can contribute to insurance monthly premiums that are less expensive and easier on your wallet.

1. Train in a Smaller Sized Family Car

The motor size, power production and preliminary worth of the car you practice in, has a major influence on the insurance plan costs. That is why, when you have the pick, it is best to purchase a teen car insurance for small cars or compact cars . More compact cars that will be more affordable to purchase , are less costly to repair and for that reason insurance firms ask for a cheaper monthly premium for the insurance.

2. Become Added To a Household Motor Insurance

Among the ways to get cheaper learner driver insurance is actually to get added to your family insurance. Simply being added to a second policy could be cheaper than starting up a new insurance policy. Bear in mind that should there be a crash, it can certainly alter the record of your family insurance protection and bump up the premiums. Learners might also take into consideration short term specialty learner insurance that is developed to help safeguard a dad?s or mom?s no-claims bonus whilst his or her vehicle is being made use of for teaching.

3. Apply for a Provisional License

Many specialized insurers should be able to provide insurance cover to younger individuals if they have a provisional driving license. The fact is the insurance plan will still be costly. All USA licenses issued to a teenager are normally provisional licences

4. Utilize your Superb Marks from University or College

If you are in school and obtain very good grades, this might lead to money off on student driver?s insurance cover. College students that have fantastic grades with higher education are considered as responsible individuals and so are quite likely going to be conscientious individuals. However, in the event the driver does get into a collision or gets a ticket for exceeding the speed limit, the monthly premiums of their insurance policy can nevertheless range in price up again.

5. Compare Insurance Proposals

Among the best solutions to acquire affordable student driver insurance cover is by comparing many price quotes. Many different estimates can now be efficiently found on the web, typically as a result of typing in only a solitary request. After you have various price quotes, you?ll be able to to find out which insurance plan will give you the ideal protection at the most economical amount.

6. Take Coaching from an Approved Driving Instructor- Graduated drivers course

Another way to get hold of a reduction on learners insurance or teen car insurance? for brand new individuals is by choosing a certified driving training. Finding appropriate specialist training is viewed favourably by insurance providers for brand new drivers. Of course, there are various driving programs designed to provide insurance policy choices to the motorists for an additional amount.

7. Low Annual Miles

Another element which insurance firms give consideration to when arranging the costs is the amount of miles the car is going to be driven in the 12 months. They?ll use this quantity whenever figuring out premiums. To help keep the insurance coverage more cost effective, try to keep the brand new driver?s distance lower to the minimum during the year.

From rags to riches at South Africa iron ore mine (Reuters)

KATHU, South Africa (Reuters) ? Life is about to get a lot better for people like Christopher Mocwane, a worker at one of the world's largest iron ore mines outside this dusty town in the middle of the Kalahari desert.

Thanks to an employee share ownership scheme, the 47-year-old, who earns 7,000 rand ($835) a month, is about to receive a 576,045-rand ($68,700) windfall.

"I'm going to buy myself a house. The one where I live now, I'll fix it and give it to my mother," he told Reuters, wiping the sweat off his forehead in the scorching heat. "She was very happy when I told her."

"My children are still small, but I will now be able to send them to school when they grow up," he added with a nervous smile.

Mocwane is one of 6,200 workers at Kumba Iron Ore due to benefit from the plan aimed at ensuring all its workers share the profits of the iron ore producer over the past five years.

A unit of global miner Anglo American, Kumba has already paid out 279 million rand in dividends to the same employees, an average of 55,000 rand per person over five years.

The lump sum to be paid out between December 15 and 17 is linked to the share price on November 17, and comes to around 345,000 rand per employee after taxes. Those who have not been with Kumba for the full five years will get less.

"I've tried to fix my house. We had a problem with water, and now we have water," said Mocwane, who has worked at the open-pit mine for 17 years, first as a cleaner and now driving trucks.

"For many years I didn't have a car, but I have one now. I can see a lot of difference in my life," he said.

A SUCCESS FOR EMPOWERMENT SCHEME

Kumba's "Envision" program has become a poster child for South Africa's much-maligned Black Economic Empowerment scheme aimed at giving blacks a stake in the economy after apartheid was dismantled in 1994.

Under the scheme, companies are required to meet quotas on black ownership, employment and procurement. Many have invested millions to build houses, hospitals and schools, but unions say Kumba's solution is unique.

"Every benefit the company is earning, (the workers) are part of it ... and it's not just a one-off," said Tebogo Chakapedi, a shopsteward at the National Union of Mineworkers.

"We would like that at a national level all companies adapt this," Chakapedi added.

Kumba's scheme was established when the iron ore assets of then Kumba Resources were unbundled in the Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC) in 2006.

Luckily for the employees, the company's share price has since soared thanks to rising prices of iron ore -- a core ingredient in steel -- from 120 rand in 2006 when the scheme was launched to 502 rand on Friday.

Many empowerment schemes have been criticized as only benefiting a small and politically-connected elite in a country where millions of black South Africans still live in poverty and more than a quarter of the workforce is jobless.

Critics, including some in South Africa's ruling African National Congress calling for the nationalization of mines, also contend that mining houses have done little for the communities that sit atop the minerals.

This has sparked a drive by unions and the government to push for more broad-based deals like Kumba's.

GOOD BUSINESS SENSE

Kumba chief executive Chris Griffith said Envision made business sense as well.

"We haven't had a strike in years. Employees are thinking all the time about how to continue to deliver what we are expected to deliver ... that also brings a lot of comfort for investors," he said.

Kumba today boasts one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the industry at around 3 percent and has launched another 5-year scheme bringing more dividends and another lump sum in 2016 as an incentive to stay on instead of cashing in and leaving.

Aware of the potential negative effects of sudden windfalls, the company has organized workshops, industrial theatre performances and distributed comics over the past year to teach workers about how to pay off debt and invest in housing.

They were also taught how to pay taxes -- a new experience for some given their incomes range between 5,000 and 20,000 rand a month, excluding benefits.

The arid Northern Cape province all around Kathu is sparsely populated and impoverished, a sprawling rural area where carts are still drawn by donkeys.

But there is lots of building activity in Kathu and new businesses like hair salons and car washes are springing up, partially supported through programs organized by Kumba.

In a country with one of the world's highest crime rates, there are concerns that the next pay day will be a magnet for criminals. Kumba said it was working with the local police to make sure people would not be targeted by thieves.

"I'm afraid (you) will see people knocking on your door saying 'oh, I'm selling this...', maybe coming to rob us," said Patricia Andries, a health and safety officer at the mine.

For now workers are just counting the days.

"It's like a kid waiting for Christmas ... my wife can't wait," said Ian van den Heever, a boiler maker at the mine. ($1 = 8.3800 South African rand)

Students say they were questioned before NC flight

Students from the United Arab Emirates were taken off a Thanksgiving Day flight from Charlotte to Washington and rescreened by security, causing the flight to be delayed for more than four hours.

Three of the students told WJLA-TV in Washington (http://wj.la/vWN9fl ) they were pulled from the US Airways plane and questioned about the purpose of their trip and whether they had military training. They now want an apology.

A spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration said the US Airways pilot requested Charlotte airport police assist in removing individuals from the plane because of a perceived security concern. TSA and airport police responded and later determined the individuals did not pose any security threat.

A spokeswoman for US Airways declined to comment about the nature or origin of the security concern.

Kyobo eReader sports Qualcomm mirasol display (Digital Trends)

Kyobo eReader

Like many other booksellers around the world, South Korea?s Kyobo Book Centre (Korean) is entering the ereader market with its new Kyobo eReader, and a 5.7-inch XGA display, battery life measured in weeks, Google?s Android under the hood, and (not surprising for the Korean market) an emphasis on Korean content. However, the Kyobo eReader has one feature that makes it absolutely unique on the planet: it uses a 5.7-inch XGA mirasol display from Qualcomm, a technology that combines the long battery possibilities of E Ink displays with a full color output and response times that let the display handle animated and video content. And, yes, it?s readable in full sunlight.

?The Kyobo e-Reader brings the user a true book reading experience,? said Kyobo Book Centre CEO Mr. Seong-Ryong Kim, in a statement. ?With our diverse content and leading edge technology from Qualcomm, Kyobo Book Centre will provide a premium reading experience to our customers.?

Mirasol displays operate using a principle similar to the phenomena that enables a peacock?s feathers to shift between colors in different light: basically, the display minutely controls the distance between a membrane and a reflective glass surface, and the distance between them either blocks light or amplifies particular frequencies, causing the membrane to appear transparent, black, or a particular colors. Qualcomm?s mirasol display layer three of these together to create a full color red, green, and blue display. The displays only consume power then they?re moving the membranes around, and they move them fast: they only have to move a few hundred nanometers to change color, enabling them to respond fast enough to handle video. The mirasol display actually gets brighter (rather than washed out) in bright light, and for use in dim places Qualcomm includes a front-light LED system that mimics sunlight.

The Kyobo eReader isn?t the first device with a mirasol display: they?re on a few Asian phones, a a handful of media devices have used small versions of the displays. However, the Kyobo eReader is the first ereader to adopt the technology?the 5.7-inch display has a native resolution of 1,024 by 768 pixels??and since it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it may appeal to Android fans looking for a little something different. The mirasol display offers very long battery life compared to the LCDs in typical tablets?Kyobo says the device will run for ?weeks? with 30 minutes reading time a day and the front light set to 25 percent. The device also features a 1 GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor, multitouch touchscreen, and Wi-Fi connectivity?although users will need to turn Wi-Fi off to get maximum battery life. The Kyobo ereader will also feature English-language text-to-speech capabilities and the Diotek dictionary application.

The Kyobo eReader is available now in South Korea for a suggested retail price of KRW349,000?that?s about US$310, but Kyobo Platinum Book Club members can get the device for KRW299,000 (about US$265). There?s no word yet on whether Kyobo intends to market the device in countries outside Korea.

US awaits release of 3 students held in Egypt (AP)

PHILADELPHIA ? Family and friends of three American students arrested during a protest in Cairo waited anxiously Friday for news that they had been released from police custody.

Derrik Sweeney, Luke Gates and Gregory Porter, who attend the American University in Cairo, were arrested on the roof of a university building near Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square on Sunday. Officials accused them of throwing firebombs at security forces fighting with protesters.

A court in Egypt ordered the release of the students, a lawyer in Philadelphia confirmed Thursday.

Attorney Theodore Simon, who represents Porter, a 19-year-old student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, said he spoke by phone with Porter, describing the student's demeanor as "calm and measured, demonstrating a maturity well beyond his 19 years."

"He was extremely thankful and appreciative for our efforts and the unconditional support of his mother and father," Simon said.

Porter is from Glenside, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.

Sweeney's mother, Joy Sweeney, said she is "absolutely elated" at the news of her 19-year-old son's release.

"I can't wait to give him a huge hug and tell him how much I love him," she said, adding that the news of the court order was the best Thanksgiving gift.

The 21-year-old Gates is a student at Indiana University.

His parents released a statement Thursday through the school, saying they were "extremely happy" to hear that their son would soon be released.

"This has been a difficult situation, and while we are disappointed that he will be held a few days longer to complete administrative procedures related to his release, we're confident he will be home soon," Bill and Sharon Gates wrote.

The State Department released a statement saying it was trying to independently confirm the reports of the students' release.

Earlier Thursday, Egypt officials said the Abdeen Court in Cairo had ordered their release. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media. They did not say when the students would be released.

Joy Sweeney said she wasn't sure when her son, a student at Georgetown University, would be returning to their home in Jefferson City, Mo.

"If he can find his passport (then he'll leave) tomorrow, if not, it won't be until Monday," she said.

She said the U.S. consul general in Egypt, Roberto Powers, recommended that her son leave Egypt as soon as possible.

"He also conveyed that that was what Derrik had conveyed to him that he wanted to do. He was enjoying his experience but (was) ready to be done with it," Sweeney said.

Derrik Sweeney interned for U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., earlier this year. Luetkemeyer's spokesman Paul Sloca, said the congressman is "extremely pleased that he's safe and coming home, especially on Thanksgiving."

Sweeney said she had not prepared for a Thanksgiving celebration, although a friend had taken her some food. She said the idea of a Thanksgiving feast had seemed "absolutely irrelevant" before the news of her son's pending freedom.

Asked what she thought her son would take away from his arrest, Sweeney said she thought he would make something useful of it.

"I'm sure that he'll put a life-lesson learning experience into a positive story," Sweeney said. "He's a writer, he will write about this experience."

Texas Beat Texas A&M 27-25 In College Football Thriller

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas spoiled Texas A&M's going away party.

Justin Tucker kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the Longhorns a 27-25 victory over Texas A&M on Thursday night in the likely end of a more than century-old rivalry.

Texas A&M's last Big 12 game and the 118th meeting between these bitter rivals before the Aggies depart for the Southeastern Conference next season was a thriller befitting one of college football's oldest and most storied matchups.

The Aggies were down 24-19 before Ryan Tannehill found Jeff Fuller on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 1:48 remaining. But the 2-point conversion failed, leaving A&M (6-6, 4-5 Big 12) ahead 25-24.

The Longhorns' winning drive was helped by a 15-yard personal foul penalty and a 25-yard run by quarterback Case McCoy.

McCoy started Thursday after being benched after a loss to Oklahoma in favor of David Ash.

McCoy struggled to move the offense for much of the game, but he was able to do just enough to get the Longhorns in position for Tucker's winner.

Texas players spilled onto the field as soon as the kick sailed through the uprights. At the same time, thousands of dejected Aggies fans streamed to the exits in the end of this holiday tradition in this football-crazy state.

Receiver Jaxon Shipley threw a touchdown pass on a trick play in the first half and the Longhorns took advantage of two interceptions in a 17-point third quarter to send the Aggies off with a loss.

Carrington Byndom's interception return for a touchdown early in the third quarter cut Texas A&M's lead to 16-14.

The Longhorns (7-4, 4-4) took a 17-14 lead on a 23-yard field goal later in the third.

Tannehill's third interception led to a 1-yard touchdown run by Cody Johnson to extend the Longhorns' lead to 24-16

At times the end of this bitter rivalry felt like a goodbye between longtime friends. The Longhorn band spelled out `Thanks A&M' while playing "Thanks for the Memories." Earl Campbell, who the Heisman Trophy at Texas in 1977, and Texas A&M's John David Crow, winner of the award in 1957, watched the game sitting side by side in golf cart in the corner of the stadium.

Texas A&M's collie mascot, Reveille, didn't share in the goodwill. She showed her dislike for the Longhorns by chewing on a small stuffed version of Bevo, the Texas mascot during the game.

Texas A&M's official fight song bids adieu to the Longhorns with the line "so long to the orange and white." But the Aggies didn't really want to say goodbye.

They'd hoped to continue the game, which began in 1894 and has been played every year since 1915, but the Longhorns said their schedule is full through 2018.

Countless great players and games have populated this series. Former Texas A&M coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's 1954 team, which survived his grueling camp in Junction, Texas, played the Longhorns. Crow, A&M's only Heisman winner, was a member of the first Aggie team to beat Texas at Memorial Stadium in 1956. It was against the Aggies in 1998 that the Longhorns' Ricky Williams broke the Division I-A career rushing record in a 26-24 win.

Campbell had the best game of his Texas career against the Aggies when he ran for 222 yards and three touchdowns, and scored on a 60-yard pass in a 57-28 win by the Longhorns in 1977.

Fans were welcomed to the game with a prerecorded message on the Jumbotron by former Texas A&M defensive end/linebacker Von Miller. The crowd roared as Miller, the second overall pick in this year's draft, encouraged the Aggies to win.

On Thursday, Ben Malena caught his first career pass for a 7-yard touchdown on A&M first drive to make it 7-0. He was filling in for A&M's 1,000-yard rusher Cyrus Gray, who missed the game with a stress fracture in his left shoulder.

Randy Bullock pushed A&M's lead to 10-0 later in the first quarter with a 49-yard field goal.

The Longhorns couldn't get anything going on offense early and didn't get a first down until the last play of the first quarter.

Texas A&M was up 13-0 after another field goal in the second quarter before Texas used a trick play where Shipley threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Blaine Irby to cut the lead to six.

Shipley returned after missing the last three games with a knee injury.

Another field goal by Bullock left A&M up 16-7 at halftime.

Tannehill was 20 of 49 for 224 yards and Fuller had a season-high seven receptions for 107 yards.

The Longhorns' normally potent running game didn't do much with Malcolm Brown leading the group with 17 carries for 39 yards.

Bachmann: Fallon song choice shows sexism, bias (AP)

ST. PAUL, Minn. ? GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann lashed out Wednesday at NBC for not apologizing or taking immediate disciplinary action for an off-color song played during her appearance on Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night."

In her first comments on the flap, Bachmann said on the Fox News Channel that the Fallon show band displayed sexism and bias by playing a snippet of a 1985 Fishbone song as she walked onstage for Tuesday's show. The title of the song is "Lyin' Ass B----."

"This is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite," Bachmann said. She added, "This wouldn't be tolerated if this was Michelle Obama. It shouldn't be tolerated if it's a conservative woman either."

Fallon has tweeted an apology to Bachmann, saying he was "so sorry about the intro mess." Bachmann said she hoped to speak with Fallon later Wednesday and wouldn't mind going on his show again.

But Bachmann expressed surprise that she's heard nothing from the TV network. She suggested that discipline for the show's Roots band was in order.

One of Bachmann's congressional colleagues, New York Democrat Nita Lowey, had called on NBC to apologize for its "insulting and inappropriate" treatment of its guest.

An NBC spokeswoman didn't immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press.

The Roots' bandleader, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, has said the song was a "tongue-in-cheek and spur-of-the-moment decision."

Bachmann, who is lagging in presidential polls, has spent the week promoting her new autobiography in national television interviews.
