Website says Sinead O'Connor's marriage is over (omg!)

LONDON (AP) ? A statement on Sinead O'Connor's website says her brief marriage to therapist Barry Herridge has ended amicably.

The statement on sineadoconnor.com says "the marriage was 16 days. We lived together for 7 days only.. Until Xmas eve."

The statement says "from the moment myself and my husband got together ... there was intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me."

She adds: "As my good friend said 'well, at least you got married in Vegas in a pink Cadillac! Can't get more Rock n Roll than that.'"

Roman Szendrey, who maintains the site, told The Associated Press by phone Wednesday the report is accurate and was personally posted by O'Connor.

No iPad Mini in 2012?

There has been a great clamor from consumers for Apple to release an iPad mini or a 7-inch tablet but just like Steve Jobs' said in a statement, small iPad will not be added in their product line in the near future. However, we may see a cheaper iPad 2 next year.

Contrary to rumors going around, Apple will not release a smaller iPad. There are various reasons on why this will happen. However, one of the reasons is former Apple owner Steve Jobs' statement towards the miniature device. "One naturally thinks that a 7-inch screen would offer 70 per cent of the benefits of a 10-inch screen," Jobs said during a 2010 earnings call. "Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. ... The reason we [won't] make a 7-inch tablet isn't because we don't want to hit [a lower] price point, it's because we think the screen is too small to express the software. As a software driven company, we think about the software strategies first."

There are rumors that Apple is testing the device but the company will not be releasing its version next year. Part of the appeal of a smaller tablet is the price point. Smaller tablets are usually priced in the mid-level price range, below $400. Blair thinks Apple will use a different strategy to hit that tier:

"We believe Apple is highly likely to keep the iPad 2 on the production line after the launch of iPad 3 and offer it at a lower price point in an effort to address demand at the mid-tier, what we view as the $249 to $499 range. We believe iPad 2?s price could drop to the $349 to $399 range with Apple offering a single 16GB model."

It is expected that the price of the iPad 2 will be lower since a next generation of tablet is expected to be introduced next year. According to the Taiwanese news agency DigiTimes, tech giant Apple, Inc. will be releasing its much-awaited next generation of iPad in the next three to four months.

DigiTimes reported that their sources from the Apple's supply chain said that the production for the iPad 3 ramped up and the production of current generation of iPad decreased. Specifically, the source of the news agency confirmed that OEM production of the iPad 2 will remain high, producing 14 to 15 million units by the fourth quarter of 2011 but will drastically decline to 4 to 5 million units on the first quarter of 2012 to pave the way for the new iPad.?

The Science and Technology of Gaming Continues to Evolve ? Blog ...

? ?We are indebted to seven local bodies that all contributed to this gaming technology magnate school,? said fundraiser Waltersheid Reiswig

Starting out was a gaming technology webmaster can be very challenging. The first, and most important part, is getting a good domain name. ?Domains can easily be turned into good gaming technology brands,? reports Veta Trotta, who has several websites, ?and the shorter, the better, so that people can remember to return to your site.? After a domain has been anchored, find a programmer who is well versed in the gaming technology sector, since this will help you communicate easier and work more efficiently. ?I followed the great gaming technology Webmasters? Guide by Pyo Klutts, who details some simple website plans that one can build from readily available templates,? said Meghann Osten. Templates can be used on most platforms, including Windows and Linux based servers. It?s important to remember that the server operating system doesn?t matter when it comes to making a buck in the gaming technology sector: marketing your website successfully is the only way to go. After planning your gaming technology website and consulting designers and programmers, set out an 8 month plan to ramp-up your efforts. ?Carefully budget your website production time,? says Marlo Cabon, author of the famous guide ?How to make a hundred from nothing?. ?Also, don?t forget that your gaming technology marketing can beging from day one: start getting links from authority sites and coordinate press releases.? As with any venture, it is important to seek legal counsel, especially if you plan to market gaming technology to consumers nationwide. Laws vary from state to state, and coordinating sales tax on any gaming technology merchandise and making sure all money processing is fairly calculated can be a headache. ?Many corporate legal firms, like Yerico Javor INC, offer turn-key solutions for webmasters that sell nationwide,? reports Vanhooser Texter, a big time webmaster, ?and this can eliminate a lot of stress right away. Many firms plug you right into their gaming technology payment processing division, and you?re up and running legally within a couple short weeks.? For further information, visit Brincks Paynter.com or Rhudy Marsala.net, two gaming technology websites that offer extensive libraries of search engine tips, marketing research, and email marketing techniques. ?Like any entrepreneurial venture, the gaming technology sector comes with substantial risk,? warns Pinch Dunmire, author of the ?Internet?s guide to marketing?, ?so if your bank roll can?t afford the initial investment, or if you just don?t have enough time, wait until things are clearer before setting out to work on new gaming technology projects.? Two of the more successful web-enpreneurs are Hutto Tosti and Jacinda Spino, who starte din the gaming technology field some seven years ago. ?It took me a long time to get going,? said Jacinda Spino, ?mostly because I had no clue what to do. There were no guides or reference books, just my gut instinct. Over time, I trusted my intuition and used common sense to move forward.? A solid understanding of marketing gaming technology doesn?t hurt either, which is how Hutto Tosti got started in the industry. All in all, don?t forget to enjoy your work. If you don?t like the gaming technology business, don?t make yourself get up every day to slog away at your desk. Instead, find what you really enjoy and stick with it. For some people, creating a gaming technology oriented website can be easy, for others, it can be a real challenge; but, if you don?t like working on these projects, you?re better off searching for more meaningful self employment.

Travellers on London's Underground network face disruption as drivers belonging to the union Aslef stage a 24-hour strike.

Travellers on London's Underground network face disruption as drivers belonging to the union Aslef stage a 24-hour strike.

The dispute is over the union's demand for extra pay for its members working on the public holiday.

London Underground says it will work to make sure as many services as possible will operate.

The strike is expected to affect shoppers heading for the Boxing Day sales and football fans.

Arsenal have already moved their Premier League game with Wolves to 27 December because of the strike, but Chelsea's game with Fulham goes ahead at Stamford Bridge.

The BBC's Daniel Boettcher says Aslef has argued that choosing to work on Boxing Day should be voluntary and drivers who agree to do so should be paid extra as well as getting a day off in lieu.

London Underground says it has a long-standing agreement with all of its trade unions covering bank holidays and this applies to Boxing Day.

It has described the demand for additional payment as outrageous and last week challenged Aslef's strike ballot in the High Court saying it was unlawful as the vote included drivers who were not rostered to work on Boxing Day.

But a High Court judge, Mr Justice Eder, said the disruption caused because of the strike was "regrettable" but the strike was "inevitable".

"I do not consider that the fact that the ballot included persons who would not themselves go on strike renders the ballot held in breach of (legislation)," he added.

Transport for London says the strike is likely to cause significant disruption for passengers trying to get to sporting fixtures, Boxing Day sales or travelling to work.

But it says it is trying to get as many services as possible to run - and will lay on extra buses in busy shopping areas.

If there there is no resolution to this dispute in the New Year, the union plans three more 24-hour strikes in January and February.

Aslef members plan to walk out again on 16 January, 3 February and 13 February over the same issues.

Services were severely disrupted on Boxing Day last year when drivers walked out over the "long-running" dispute.

China's Mengniu says destroys tainted milk (Reuters)

SHANGHAI (Reuters) ? China Mengniu Dairy Co Ltd, the nation's biggest dairy firm, said it had destroyed milk found to be contaminated with a cancer-causing substance, the latest food safety problem to hit the country's dairy industry.

Mengniu said in a statement posted on its website over the weekend that it had destroyed a batch of products at a plant in the southwestern province of Sichuan found by the government quality watchdog to contain aflatoxin, a substance produced by food fungus that can cause severe liver damage, including liver cancer.

"Mengniu would like to express our sincere apologies to consumers," the company said, adding that none of the tainted products had made their way into the market.

"We will draw a big lesson from this incident and will work harder to meet all national and corporate standards on quality in the future," it said.

The incident comes when China's rapidly growing but fragmented dairy industry is attempting to win back consumers' confidence after a series of scandals involving milk tainted with toxic substances.

In 2008, at least six children died and nearly 300,000 became ill from powdered milk laced with melamine, an industrial chemical added to low quality or diluted milk to fool inspectors by giving misleadingly high readings for protein levels.

Earlier this month, a Chinese court sentenced a woman to death and jailed her husband for life for lacing milk sold by a competitor with the industrial salt nitrite as a form of revenge, killing three children and making 36 sick.

The Hong Kong stock market, where Mengniu's shares are listed, is closed on Monday and Tuesday for a public holiday. The company's shares last traded at HK$26.50 ($3.41). They have gained around 28 percent so far this year.

In October, Mengniu had said it was not in direct talks with Pfizer to bid for the U.S. drug giant's nutrition business, following a media report it was considering such a move. ($1 = 7.7770 Hong Kong dollars)

DIY Health Reform: Employers Solving Healthcare Crisis One Onsite Clinic At A Time

DIYIn several of my?past pieces, I have written about the importance of a disruptive model of care and payment called Direct Primary Care (DPC) such as?The Most Important Organization In Silicon Valley That No One Has Heard About. As the DPC models scale, they become a great option for individuals and small business. However, larger organizations have another option at their disposal that I'm as excited about as the DPC models. Employers fed up with the annual "get less for more" health story when they get annual health plan updates have taken matters into their own hands. This has created one of the hottest sectors of the economy -- onsite clinic providers. These are companies providing corporations with primary care onsite at employer workplaces. Each of the onsite clinic provider CEOs (e.g., Concentra, CareHere) I have spoken with have shared that their business is growing 100% annually. Reportedly 20% of employers with over 500 employees are implementing onsite clinic programs.

Oil from 2007 spill surprisingly toxic to fish, scientists report

Thick, tarry fuel oil disgorged into San Francisco Bay from a damaged cargo ship in 2007 was surprisingly toxic to fish embryos, devastating the herring population that feeds seabirds, whales and the bay's last commercial fishery, scientists reported Monday.

Although the bay's herring spawning grounds are now free of toxic oil, studies have found that the moderate-size spill of 54,000 gallons had an unexpectedly large and lethal effect.

The culprit, a common type of ship fuel called "bunker fuel," appears to be especially toxic to fish embryos, particularly when exposed to sunlight, according to a study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"That's the big lesson," said John Incardona, a toxicologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service. "This bunker oil is literally the dregs of the barrel, and it's much more toxic than crude oil."

The container ship Cosco Busan spilled low-grade bunker fuel after it sideswiped the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge on a foggy November morning four years ago. This type of sludge-like fuel is cheap and thus popular among operators of commercial shipping fleets that transport raw materials and goods around the globe.

Scientists have traditionally focused on larger crude oil spills, such as last year's Deepwater Horizon drilling rig blowout in the Gulf of Mexico or 1989's Exxon Valdez tanker disaster, in which 11 million gallons of oil were discharged into Alaska's Prince William Sound. The Exxon spill is suspected of wiping out the sound's herring fishery, which has never bounced back.

From studies in Alaska, scientists knew that oil could cause heart deformities to developing herring in their embryonic sacs.

But after examining herring embryos placed in cages in shallow waters near the Cosco Busan spill site, researchers were surprised to find that nearly all had died, and their tissues were deteriorating faster than expected in the bay's chilly water.

"We didn't think there was enough oil spilled to cause this much damage," said Gary Cherr, a study coauthor and director of the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory. He described the total spill as similar in size to a large backyard swimming pool.

Oil and water don't mix. The fat-filled herring egg sacs can act like little sponges, soaking up the highly toxic compounds from the bunker fuel. Once exposed to sunlight during low tides, the oil compounds became even more lethal to developing fish.

"Bunker fuel is used worldwide and is spilled relatively often," Cherr said. "It is important to look at small spills in sensitive areas," he added, now that science understands the lethal potential of low concentrations.

The owners and operators of the Cosco Busan in September agreed to pay $44.4 million to cover government claims, the cost of the cleanup ? about half of the spilled oil was captured ? and bay restoration programs. Besides tarring about 30% of the bay's herring spawning grounds, the spill killed about 6,800 seabirds and closed beaches for months.
