Ex-Penn State president's attorneys blast report

The statue of former Penn State University head football coach Joe Paterno stands outside Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa., Friday, July 13, 2012. After an eight-month inquiry, former FBI director Louis Freeh's firm produced a 267-page report that concluded that Paterno and other top Penn State officials hushed up child sex abuse allegations against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky for more than a decade for fear of bad publicity, allowing Sandusky to prey on other youngsters. The revelations contained in the report have stirred a debate over whether the statue should remain. (AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar)

Attorneys for ousted Penn State president Graham Spanier (SPAN'-yer) say a report released last week on the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal "contained numerous inaccuracies and reached conclusions that are not supported by the data."

The report by former FBI director Louis Freeh (LOO'-ee free) concluded Spanier and other top Penn State officials concealed Sandusky's abuse of children to shield the university from bad publicity.

Attorneys Elizabeth Ainslie and Peter Vaira said Monday that Freeh "unfairly offered up" their client and others "to those insisting upon a finding of culpability at the highest level of the university."

The attorneys say Spanier is looking forward to the opportunity to "set the record straight."

Freeh says Penn State officials exhibited "callous and shocking" disregard for child victims.

Sandusky was convicted of abusing 10 boys. He has maintained his innocence.

Guardians of the Galaxy movie confirmed

guaridans of the galaxy film It had been speculated for a while, but at ComicCon Marvel finally confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy movie was moving forward, and it?s release date has been set for August 1, 2014.

For those not familiar with the comic (like myself) the Guardians of the Galaxy are ?a team of superhuman and extra-terrestrial adventurers dedicated to the safeguarding of the Milky Way Galaxy from any force that threatens the security or liberty of its various people?. So it?s basically The Avengers but with aliens and set in space. Nice!

The team includes Star-Lord (a human interplanetary policeman), Drax the Destroyer (a resurrected superhuman warrior and nemesis of Thanos), Groot (a plant monster who can control trees), Gamora (a dangerous female assassin who has a preference for knives and swords) and Rocket Racoon (a genetically altered racoon who can fly a plane and carries a laser pistol).

You can see the line-up below thanks to some official concept art released by Marvel:

guaridans of the galaxy film image

With the August 2014 release date set we can probably expect filming to begin next year, so we?ve got news of the director and cast to look forward to over the upcoming months. I?m not familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy at all but the concept and characters have definitely got me interested.

Lexar XQD memory cards announced, will need to duel with Sony for Nikon D4's attention

Nikon's D4 is currently the only belle at the XQD ball, and until now, Sony was its only memory suitor. However, Lexar's just arrived with a new line of cards to compete for the D4's affections. The Fremont-based company says it collaborated with Nikon to build the PCI Express-based memory, and that they'll hit the market sometime in the third quarter of 2012 -- with no mention of specs or prices so far. Unfortunately, that means we don't know how Lexar's offerings will stack up against Sony's H-series or S-series cards already on the market. That said, while you wait for more details about Lexar's new cards, feel free to check out the lovely data the D4 will be putting on 'em when they arrive.

Astrology of Sun in Tir or Cancer, Moon in Khordad or Gemini 2012

Astrology of Sun in Tir or Cancer, Moon in Khordad or Gemini 2012

http://instagr.am/p/ND44KQLF9o/

The Moon has moved from Ordibehesht or Taurus to Khordad or Gemini just about now. Find the Moon in the link above. You will see it is very close to Jupiter, and Venus. So no more "I have" to "I think".

In Astrology we have two fortunate planets. One is Venus and the other is Jupiter. They are both quite close to each other. Once a month the Moon comes around and says "hello, gee wazzup?".

So its that time of the month. Go and call on people. Say a simple "hi" or "chetori" we Iranians say in Persian. It is all about making simple contacts. It's also about simple logic and thinking.

Go out of your way to be interested in the ability to make the contact. It does not matter who or what. And by "what" I mean any concept. Words or the elements of thought are more important than the meanings of sentences.

What Jupiter and Venus are doing are that they are helping us build these words and simple fundamental communications. Don't bother with philosophical or deeply religious hogwash. Just connect things. Really look to solve basic thought processes.

This is the time for new languages. Finglish we call it in Persian. Writing Persian in English. Like the word Chetori. It means how are you doing. Splitting the elements of the words is what counts. Che is like Que in Latin. To is like Tu in French. Ri, dunno but it sounds like are backwards. TXT is in.

Ok lets move on and look at other alignmnets. Mars is really close to making an exact opposition to Uranus and squaring Pluto. That awkward energy will be balanced by the Moon Jupiter and Venus. All kinds of political tension and governance will be in the news. Kick that boss in the head. Contact him with those new words I asked you to create earlier.

Mercury is there too making a good angle to sort out the awkward tension between Mars Pluto and Uranus. It will start to slow down and then go backwards as it appears from Earth. That will produce strange communication problems. Again forget the old system of contacting. Start a new angle.

So check your travel plans twice. Rebookings will take place. "Darlings I said 7pm at the corner of Harrods". But he did not say which corner. LOL communication breakdowns all over the place. And the Brits want to run the Olympics. OMG

If you want to see how much things have changed from the last time the Moon was in Khordad last months, just click on the hashtag that says #moongemini. This is an indispensible tool. And you can do it for all the other searches. Look at that date and see what happened. You will see how much the other planets have moved. It is all very dynamic.

Keep an eye on the moments when we have hard and soft aspects from the stockstars report. That is very powerful.

GOP hopeful Mitt Romney faces summer of hurdles and opportunities in fight to unseat Obama

WASHINGTON - As the White House challenger, Mitt Romney can seize on the attention that accompanies the selection of a running mate. When the London Olympics get under way, he can use that spotlight to play up his leadership of the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

His candidacy also is benefiting from the fundraising power of outside GOP-aligned political groups that are spending millions on TV ads to promote him and undercut President Barack Obama. The weak economic recovery offers the chance for Romney to make inroads among unhappy voters.

Not all is rosy, however, for the former Massachusetts governor.

Health care is the last thing Romney wants to talk about. As he appeals to independent voters, he has to fend off charges that by moving to the middle, he's changing core positions for political purposes.

ADVANTAGES:

Picking a vice president: It's one of the biggest decisions Romney will make during the campaign and will shed light on Romney's judgment at a time when voters are just getting to know him. Announcing the decision will ensure that he can dominate headlines, for a few days at least, in the middle of an otherwise slow summer, and could provide a fundraising boost. With a running mate in place, Romney will gain a new top surrogate who is likely to act in the traditional role of a vice presidential nominee: attacking the top of the other ticket ? Obama in this case.

The Olympics: The 2012 Games in London are made for Romney as he looks to showcase one of his signature achievements, his work running the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. The event was mired in scandal before Utah leaders hired Romney to try and dig them out of the mess. Romney's campaign so far has refrained from introducing to the general electorate his record as steward of the Olympics, but aides have planned extensively for the August games. Look for Romney do interviews with major media outlets and attend the opening ceremonies as well as a few events.

Super political action committees: Romney has exceeded fundraising expectations, and he's also getting lots of help from wealthy Republican donors and some Supreme Court decisions. The new rules allow outside groups to spend millions ? individuals don't have the same $2,500 limit that's placed on the official campaign ? to run TV ads. Super PACs can't coordinate with the campaign, but they can coordinate with each other, and they've spent millions on the air to counter Obama's onslaught of TV ads.

The Republican National Convention: The spotlight will be on Tampa, Fla., at the end of August, where the Republican challenger will accept the party's nomination and his running mate with make a national debut. Numerous rising stars within the Republican Party will get prime speaking slots. At a time when Democrats control the White House and Senate, Romney and the Republican Party will command attention for a full week.

LIABILITIES:

Health care: It's the last thing Romney wants to talk about. In June, the Supreme Court ruled that the key part of Obama's health care law ? the requirement that all in the U.S. carry health insurance ? is constitutional under the power Congress has to levy taxes. Romney enacted a similar mandate in Massachusetts when he was governor, calling the requirement a penalty instead of a tax. After the Supreme Court decision, a senior Romney adviser appeared on MSNBC and said Romney didn't believe either mandate was a tax; the candidate reversed that position just a few days later, telling CBS that Obama's mandate is a tax. The contradictions weaken Romney's ability to attack Obama on health care, potentially a critical campaign issue.

Moving to the middle: After a brutal primary, Romney is working to appeal to independent, swing and other voters he'll need to beat Obama. But moving to the middle is a dangerous endeavor for a politician who's been accused of changing his core positions to accommodate political realities. An example: immigration. After months of using the issue to bloody his primary opponents, Romney has softened his rhetoric and tone in a bid to attract Hispanic voters. But he's been careful to say little about what he would do as president and was hesitant to take a stand when the Supreme Court ruled parts of Arizona's harsh immigration enforcement law unconstitutional.

Staying in the spotlight: It's always a problem for a challenger running against an incumbent president: attention. Without the bully pulpit the presidency allows, staying in the spotlight through the Olympic Games and long summer vacations will be challenging for a candidate who still needs to introduce himself to voters. Romney will have some high-profile opportunities to get noticed, particularly his selection of a vice president. But Obama still has an edge.

Defining himself before Obama does: Romney still isn't well known to most voters. In a May Associated Press-GfK poll, 44 percent of adults felt they had "a good idea of what policies Mitt Romney would pursue if elected president," compared with 67 percent who said they had a good idea of the policies Obama would pursue. That gives Obama a chance to define Romney for voters before Romney can define himself. Democrats have been hammering Romney for once having a Swiss bank account and for keeping investments in offshore tax havens.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean full changelog posted by Google

We have talked extensively about Google?s recently announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, and while we have shown you its main features in posts and videos here on Android Authority, we now have the full official changelog of the new OS.

  • A new My Library widget, which displays all of your recent movies, books, music, and magazines and dynamically changes based on what you?ve been engaging with recently.

There are plenty of other features mentioned the changelog, as we have only shown you above a selection of features that haven?t really made it into most Jelly Bean-related articles and reviews. As you can see, there are plenty of Jelly Bean features that Google did not directly address during Google I/O, but which you?ll discover and enjoy on your Android device running the OS.

We?ll also notice that Google has specifically customized certain Jelly Bean features to run on 7-inch devices ? obviously for its Nexus 7 tablet ? but it did not mention improved support for other (bigger) screen sizes. Also worth mentioning is that the changelog, available at the link below, has a distinct section that describes ?the new Google experience on Android? including Google Search, Google Now and Google Play features. Is Google trying to explicitly tell potential Kindle Fire buyers that they won?t get a similar experience on Amazon?s tablet?

Have you experienced Jelly Bean yet? What are your favorite things about it?
